Graphene oxide additive cuts diesel fuel consumption by up to 12.5%
Allkemie tested its proprietary graphene formulation in heavy-duty diesel combustion systems. The trial integrated graphene oxide as a fuel additive to improve energy extraction and reduce harmful output, and it worked as a proof of concept for decarbonizing existing industrial infrastructure without replacing hardware.
The engine test used Allkemie’s ability to produce tailored graphene: the material’s properties are adjusted specifically for dispersion in fuel.
What we measured
Fuel consumption improved by up to 12.5%. This is the longer-term effect: improved combustion keeps injectors cleaner over time, so the gain grows with use. The in-treatment figure is lower, and both are reported in the full technical report. NOx emissions fell by −33%, from 325 ppm to 218 ppm.
Pilots
For large-scale logistics and power generation, lower fuel burn and lower NOx point to real savings and an easier path through incoming regulation. We are looking for companies interested in piloting the additive in their fleets or fuels: erick.ramosmurillo@allkemie.com.
